3 Signs that Quickly Identify Someone with Bad Leadership Skills

Shelby Daly

It may be time to move on if you work with such a boss.

1. Failing to recognize people's work.

People who receive regular authentic praise

*Increase their productivity

*Increase their engagement among their colleagues

*Are more likely to stay with their organization

*Receive higher loyalty and satisfaction scores from customers

*Have better safety records and fewer accidents on the job

Recognizing employees who display positive behaviors creates a solid organizational culture. Acknowledging those who embody your organization's values signals that such behavior is valued and helps foster a deeper connection between employees and the company's culture.

2. Being a Control Freak!

Micromanaging creates a suffocating environment. It does not instill trust in the teams' skills which can stunt growth of the organization, most likely smothering innovation and new idea. Foster confidence and productivity. Know the difference between helping and micromanaging.

3. Having the Last Word

Many managers operate on the assumption that because they're "the boss" and in charge, they have to have the last word on everything. These types of people ride on the wheels of low emotional intelligence. They don't have a real understanding of how to get buy in and listen to the collective voice of the team.

A leader compared to a manager is supposed to guide and facilitate ideas. Active listening to those on the front lines will have the best knowledge of how things are operating. A leader is there to learn and help influence and engage in innovation to create change. Engagement will skyrocket when employees are given the opportunity to provide ideas and input.

Understand the difference between working in an ecosystem instead of an ego-system.
