As we have wrestled with using "Athletic Trainer" as our professional title, have we actually moved away from a common definition of what defines an athletic trainer? What is the commonality that still unites us as a profession?
An example made by Anthony Maritado on LinkedIn about Physical Therapy:
"Words are important.
When does “physical therapy” cease to be physical therapy?
Physical therapists have broadened their knowledge base in so many different ways that much of what I see posted on social media looks less and less like what I would call physical therapy.
Is there still a true definition of “physical therapy” or is it just whatever a physical therapist does is now called physical therapy because it was performed by a physical therapist?"
Even though athletic training is expanding very quickly into different settings, are the irradiations deriving away from the common meaning of what an athletic trainer is?
