Big Government Bursting Their Bubble?

Writer: Shelby DalyShelby Daly

What Business Should a "Governing" National Organization Provide?

An organization should exercise minimal influence over individuals, focusing primarily on protecting basic rights & maintaining a fair, secure environment. Their role is to ensure safety, uphold law & create conditions where people can pursue their own goals.

Burst Their Own Bubble?

Big organizations tend to overextend when it becomes too large, inefficient, and unsustainable. This can manifest in:

- Spending increases without a corresponding increase in revenue, it often leads to massive debt & financial crises

- The bigger the org, the more room there is for bureaucratic inefficiencies, vested interests can quickly distort orgs priorities

- As an org grows, it typically requires more regulation & oversight, which can stifle personal freedom & autonomy

Pitfalls

When an org becomes too large, no one truly benefits. Programs & services can become inefficient, the more the org expands, the more people may rely on it, reducing initiatives. Rather than empowering individuals, big organizations tend to foster dependency, reduce personal responsibility, & stifle innovation.

The "I’ll Fight for You" Pitch

Orgs often don’t truly understand an individual's unique circumstances. Promises are often vague & fail to address the specific needs of individuals. What works for one person or community doesn't necessarily work for another. Relying on promises can leave you disappointed & disillusioned, as no one can fully understand your individual story or fix your personal challenges.

"Fixing Your Life"

It’s unrealistic to expect an org to solve personal problems. While it can provide a safety net and essential services, the responsibility for improving one’s life lies with the individual. Over-reliance on government solutions often results in inefficiency and failure, as interventions are rarely tailored to individual needs.

Provides Opportunity

A truly effective org creates an environment where individuals have the freedom & opportunity to succeed. It should provide clear, fair rules & protections, but it should not intervene in personal decisions. The goal is to clear the way for individual success, not to control or dictate outcomes.

Clearing the Field v Leveling the Field

The role should be to clear the playing field, not level it. The org should remove unnecessary obstacles, such as unfair regulations or discriminatory practices, that prevent people from competing on equal terms. However, trying to "level" the field by redistributing opportunities can undermine personal responsibility & diminish the incentives that drive innovation & progress.

Government should exist to serve essential needs, such as:

-Defense: Protect from external threats

-Public Safety/Rule of Law: Ensuring security & justice

-A Safety Net for the Vulnerable: Providing a safety net for those who are unable to care for themselves, such as local communities that cannot provide help.
